We are still continuing to go to feeding therapy two times a week (mondays and wednesdays). We also now have a developmental therapist coming to the house once a week (wednesdays). She is working with Aryssa on her oral and motor developments. Last week was our first session and she was working on teaching Aryssa to crawl. Aryssa did not like that one bit. We shall see how this goes. We just want to make sure that other than her feeding issues that she doesn't fall behind in anything else. She seems to be right on track for the most part.
We went to a nutritionist at Vanderbilt Hospital last week. I didn't like what she had to say. She was saying that I am AGAIN not giving Aryssa enough calories. She says that I am 100 calories short. If that is the case then why is she still gaining weight still... is all I have to say about that. She wanted me to put her back on the high calorie formula recipe and I told her absolutely not... she was always throwing up when she was on it due to it took her longer to digest it. Then she had suggested that I feed her through out the night then and I said absolutely not... a 7 month old should not have to be woken up at 3 am for a feeding... she needs her sleep. So her last suggestion was for me to get her to take more volume (she is currently at 4 ozs every 3 hours 7 times a day). I told her that I will try but that it has taken me 4 months to get her from 3 ozs to 4 ozs so it may take some time. I am going to go with my own gut on this and say as long as she continues to gain weight and is still "chunky" as she currently is... then I am going to keep everything the same. Since I have taken the wheel on her feeding schedule and recipe.. she has gone leaps and bounds with feeding therapy. She isn't as aversive as she was when she was throwing up all the time. She is at least "trying" to eat cereal and loves to drink water from a cup (actually swallowing). I am so proud of her.
We have an appointment in Memphis at 7:30 am on Tuesday with a developmental therapist at a feeding clinic. My Aunt Jennifer luckily lives just outside of Memphis so she will let us stay the night with her so we don't stress Aryssa out with a 3 hours drive and then spend the day at the doctors. Thanks Aunt Jennifer. I am so excited to introduce her to Aryssa and Rob. I don't even know the last time I saw her. We asked to be seen by someone is not associated with our pediatrician nor Vanderbilt (since noone will go against anyone there). We want a fresh set of eyes on her before making a big decision such as surgery. I DO NOT want the surgery. I am really hoping that maybe this doctor can help us or send us to someone who can. Please GOD, I need something to be able to see the light at the end of this long tunnel.
Well I think I have covered it all for now... anything I missed I will cover in my next post.. sorry I got so behind on this. Oh we also have an appointment this Thursday with a GI doc, will post to let everyone know how that goes. Good night for now.
