Aryssa is doing very well considering she has been teething pretty bad. She can soak through a bib in less than an hour... good thing she has over 20. She has been a little bit fussy and clingy these past few days. I have had to keep orajel, teething tablets, and baby tylenol with me at all times. Just a few more days and we can finally take off her bandages and give her a normal bath. She has been getting sponge baths since her surgery which is no fun for her or me.
She has a new laugh now which is more of a squealing laugh/giggle, whatever you call it. It is the most beautiful sound to my ears. I am just ecstatic how happy she has been since her surgery. She smiles a lot more and laughs way more than she did when she had that awful NG tube in. I just can't wait till she is done healing and her teeth aren't bothering her to see what she is really capable of. I am hoping to get her into speech therapy here shortly to work on making more sounds with her voice as apposed to her "growling" at everything which she doesn't do as much now that she knows how to do "raspberries/spit" at everything. A stranger will walk up to her and say hi and she will try to do raspberries (spit) at them instead of her usual growl. It is actually pretty funny and always gets a good laugh out of everyone which I am sure is encouraging her to do it more. It is still said by the therapists that is good tongue exercise for her to do raspberries so we will continue to encourage her to do them. It is awfully cute when she growls or does raspberries but I would LOVE to hear her voice more. I am trying to read to her more but she still just isn't into it as much. She can't stay still and concentrate on one thing she wants to be/look all over the place. She is a very observant baby to her surroundings that is for sure. She is definitely more interested in "feeding" herself, still not too much swallowing going on but she is keeping it in her mouth more and actually moving her tongue around more. All in all I would say she is doing pretty darn good for it being less than 2 weeks since her surgery. I hope this means that it will get better and better every week and she doesn't have to keep this mic-key button in too long.
Oh and one last note. The made an incision in her belly button as well as the incision on her tummy for the mic-key button. Her belly button is already healed up and soon you will not even be able to tell she had anything done there. Hopefully when she gets the mic-key taken out one day that it too won't leave too bad of a scar. I know --I know I am a little vain worried about the scars but I just know how self conscious I am about all of my scars and I don't want her to be self conscious over anything. This mic-key button is just temporary until she learns to feed/eat herself without needing any tube feedings. I am hoping that it is something she will not remember and it will have a very tiny scar that is hardly noticeable. Well that is all for now.
